posted on 2018-03-06, 14:33 authored by Klaudia Slowik, Rafael Conceição, Rita DuarteThis documentary film was made by students from Middlesex University’s Television Production course. With thanks to course tutor Tom McGorrian, Technical Manager Aidan Delaney, and colleagues in Middlesex University’s Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries. It is about the making of Caroline Collinge's experimental dance film,
titled “Waves”. Caroline was one of the participants in a project entitled Katagami in Practice, Japanese Stencils in the Art School at the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture (MoDA), Middlesex University, in 2017-18. Caroline explains how her she made her unique paper costume
using origami techniques and laser cut paper designs. Water
patterns and wave
motifs are a common theme within katagami stencils, Japanese art and
art nouveau art and design, and this inspired the title “Waves”. The
dance performance explored how costume can combine with the performer’s
choreographed movements to create a sequence of
transformative forms originating from the costumed body.
